Help your guests get online. If possible, you should consider setting up a local WiFi network, or providing dedicated computers where people can blog, upload photos or join the conversation on pangeaday.org. Let your guests know they can also watch and participate on their mobile phones at mobile.pangeaday.org.

Get ready to blog. If you plan to blog about your Pangea Day event, let us know! Drop a note to friends@pangeaday.org and include your web site address or RSS feed. Be sure to tag all your posts with Technorati tags: PangeaDay. We'll be listening!

For a large and/or public venue event:

Contact your local broadcaster and encourage them to carry the Pangea Day program. This ensures you'll have the program available to you via television. The current list of broadcasters will be available on our web site mid-April.

Make sure you have a permit. If you're hoping to host a Friends of Pangea Day event in a public park or outdoor space, contact your town or city officials well in advance for any necessary permits.

Consult an audiovisual specialist to plan your viewing conditions, and make sure both your connectivity, projection system, and sound system are all in order.

Invite local speakers and bands. Having live speakers and entertainment creates a more vibrant event; it also gives you an opportunity to tie the global event into your local community. Confirm your special guests as soon as you can, and don't forget to ask them if they have any specific audio-visual requirements.

Host your own local short film contest. Organize a Friends of Pangea Day Film Challenge by hosting your own short film contest. Plan to gather again as a group to view the winning films — or all the entries. Visit ovi.com/pangeaday to find out how to enter the Nokia Mobile Filmmakers Contest in the weeks before Pangea Day.

Develop a web site or blog to promote your Friends of Pangea Day event, and link to www.pangeaday.org for all the up-to-date program information. Be sure to email us at friends@pangeaday.org so we can be sure to watch for it.

Let your local newspaper know about your event. Contact your local newspaper's Entertainment section at least 4 weeks before your event if you'd like to be included in their public events listings.

Get the word out. Aside from newspaper listings, you can publicize your Friends of Pangea Day event by contacting local entertainment web sites and sending notices to local schools, organizations, and places of worship. Local bloggers are often very effective at spreading the word.

Choose a charitable organization to which guests can donate funds on the spot. Ask the organization to send you useful materials, such as flyers, posters, and pre-paid envelopes.

Invite bloggers and reporters to attend. 2-4 weeks before your Friends of Pangea Day event, follow up with local reporters and bloggers, and invite them to attend. Ask journalists to contact Pangea Day directly for more information by submitting a Press Inquiry.

Plan on how you'll provide food and drink. If you're cooking or catering your event, you'll want to place orders at least three weeks in advance. Another option is to invite local restaurants or groups to set up shop nearby and have refreshments available for sale. Remember: The Pangea Day program is four hours long, and people will definitely need nourishment.

Make sure there are enough bathrooms! Over the course of 4+ hours, your guests will definitely need to make use of the facilities. If public restrooms are limited, you might want to rent portable restrooms.

For a small or private venue event:

At a small event, the conversation is key. Be ready to start and curate a discussion on the Pangea Day program. We'll have online discussions that may spark your conversation, or you can cue your conversation around local issues with global hooks.

Invite local speakers or musicians. Having live entertainment or speakers creates a more vibrant event; it also gives you an opportunity to tie the global event into your local community. Confirm your special guests as soon as you can, and don't forget to ask them if they have any specific audio-visual requirements.

Host your own short film contest. You can make this an official local event, or just keep it among your guests — ask them to bring their favorite short film, or create one of their own.

Be prepared to suggest some ideas for action that your guests can take after they see the films – whether it's making a charitable donation or making a film of their own.

Help your guests go online. Set up a dedicated computer where people can blog or add comments on each film. You can also ask guests to bring their own laptops.
